Headed In Terms of Service
Last updated September 29, 2026
Headed In is operated by David Brady Cox, a sole proprietor in Florida. By using the Headed In app or receiving Headed In text messages, you agree to these terms.
Not an emergency service
Headed In is a convenience tool, not a safety device. It depends on your phone's battery, GPS, and cell signal, all of which can fail on the water. It does not replace a VHF radio, EPIRB, PLB, float plan, or calling 911 or the U.S. Coast Guard. Always carry required safety equipment.
SMS Terms
- Program: Headed In trip and safety alerts.
- What you'll get: texts when the boater who added you heads out or gets back, and alerts if they're overdue or their phone battery is low.
- Consent: a boater adds your mobile number only after you agree to receive these texts. You then get one text asking you to reply YES. You receive nothing else until you reply YES.
- Frequency: varies with how often the boater goes out, typically a few messages per trip.
- Cost: message and data rates may apply.
- Opt out: reply STOP to any message. You'll get one confirmation and no further texts. Reply START to sign up again.
- Help: reply HELP, or email [email protected].
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Your responsibilities
Only add family members who have agreed to receive texts. Keep your return time accurate, and end or extend your trip so family members aren't alarmed unnecessarily.
Voice messages (Crew channel) go over cell data and can be delayed or lost without signal. They are not a radio and not a way to call for help: in an emergency use VHF channel 16 or call 911. Everyone with the boater's trip link can hear them. Don't send anything unlawful or anything you wouldn't want the whole group to hear.
No warranty; limit of liability
Headed In is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any loss or harm arising from alerts that are late, missing, or inaccurate, or from any failure of the app, your phone, or third-party services.
Privacy
See our Privacy Policy for what we collect and how we use it.
Changes
We may update these terms. Continuing to use Headed In after an update means you accept the new terms.
