Texas LTC Practice Test: Free License to Carry Written Exam Questions (2026)
116 practice questions for the Texas License to Carry (LTC) written exam, the test at the end of the 4-to-6-hour classroom course. They cover the four subjects the law requires: the laws on weapons and deadly force (eligibility and renewal, the places in Penal Code 46.03, the 51% sign, 30.06 and 30.07 notices, campuses and airports, holsters and vehicles), handgun use and safety with restraint holsters, nonviolent dispute resolution, and storage that keeps children safe. Many are real moments: the gas station argument, the hotel with a 30.06 sign, the airport checkpoint, the grandkids visiting. Every answer explains why and cites the statute, using the 2025-2026 DPS law booklet.
The real test: The written exam follows the 4-to-6-hour classroom course on the four subjects in Government Code 411.188: weapons and deadly force law, handgun use and safety with restraint holsters, nonviolent dispute resolution, and storage that protects children. DPS rules require 70% on the written exam and 70% on the shooting test, with three tries in 12 months. Our practice test is 30 questions weighted across the subjects, passing at 21 (70%).
Here: 116 questions. Our own practice questions, written from the Texas statutes in the DPS booklet LTC-16 (2025-2026 edition), 37 TAC 6.14 and DPS LTC course material, with every answer's statute named. Topics follow the classroom subjects in Gov't Code 411.188(b). Not DPS's exam questions. Free.
