PSI took over the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) on March 1, 2026, and the score scale changed with it. Here is the pass mark from PSI's candidate bulletin for the IRS exam.
The short answer
A scaled 500, on a scale of 200 to 800, passes each part.
Each part is 100 multiple-choice questions, 85 scored and 15 unscored, in 3.5 hours. PSI converts your number correct to the 200-800 scale. A pass shows no score at all; a fail shows a score between 200 and 499. The fee is $317 per part.
Checked October 24, 2026 against the official sources listed at the bottom of this page.
The bulletin says all scores above passing mean a candidate is qualified, not how qualified. Both results come with diagnostic information by area.
If you didn't pass
You can take each part up to four times in a testing window. The current window runs July 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027; there's no testing in March and April.
After four tries in a window, wait for the next window.
Carryover
A passed part carries over for 3 years from the date you passed it. Pass all three parts inside that time, then apply for enrollment. Practice tests: Part 1 · Part 2 · Part 3.
