Brewing out there

The Hurricane Center's tropical weather outlook: areas it is watching that are not storms yet, with its own odds of one forming.

Read the cone right. The cone is where the center will probably go; about one time in three the center ends up outside it. Wind, rain, surge and rip currents reach well past the edges. Evacuation orders come from your county's emergency management, not from us and not from this map. For anything you decide, go by nhc.noaa.gov, your National Weather Service office and Know Your Zone.

After it passes

First calm day back on the water? The Headed In app lets your people know when you head out and when you're back, and its Storm log shows every hurricane that has passed near your spot since 1851. Free.
