Oklahoma licenses Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC). New graduates apply first for permission to begin supervised practice as an LPC candidate, then for the full license. Everything below comes from the board's own pages and rules, checked October 18, 2026. Fees and rules change, so confirm on the linked pages before you pay.

Education: a master's of at least 60 semester credit hours (90 quarter) in counseling, or a doctorate whose first 60 hours meet the requirements, including at least 300 hours of internship or practicum (verified on the board's form).
Apply for supervised practice: through the board's online portal, with an FBI and an OSBI fingerprint check (each no more than 30 days old when you apply), an official transcript and the internship verification. Fees are non-refundable.
Exams: after approval, take the NCE or the NCMHCE (either is accepted) and the Oklahoma jurisprudence exam; results go to the board automatically.
Supervised experience (OAC 86:10-11-5):three years or 3,000 clock hours of full-time (20+ hours a week) on-the-job experience supervised by an approved LPC supervisor, with 350 direct client hours for every 1,000 hours, and weekly face-to-face supervision at 45 minutes for every 20 hours of experience. Extra counseling coursework beyond the master's can count for a year per 30 semester hours.
LPC: once the experience is verified, the board issues the full license.
The steps that hold nearly everywhere: a counseling master's degree (usually 60 semester hours, often CACREP-accredited), your board's approval, an NBCC exam, about two years of supervised experience, then the full license. The NCE has 200 questions (160 scored) in 3 hours 45 minutes; the NCMHCE is 11 clinical case studies in the same time; either can be retaken after 30 days (NBCC/CCE candidate handbooks).
